Our utility client performs thousands of excavations associated with new project development and customer service requests in areas that contain widespread contamination.
Due to a large smelter plume of arsenic in shallow soils underground and many institutional controls on sites across the utility’s region, worker safety and compliance obligations are complex.
To assist with these challenges, Terradex, through its WhatsDown product solution, aggregates environmental data, maps the locations of institutional controls, and integrates relevant health and safety information to create customized reports for the utility before fieldwork.
This innovative approach to environmental data interpretation identifies potential risks, informs the utility of any construction safety concerns, and ensures continued environmental compliance with institutional controls.
WhatsDown provides the utility with a self-serve, cost-efficient, and scalable risk management approach for more than 50 users across the organization.
Chemical spill sites, institutional controls, the occurrence of an arsenic smelter plume, and munitions potentially impact excavations across Washington’s Puget Sound area. Terradex has aggregated and mapped these sites.
A WhatsDown report presents a high-level finding – red if an excavation restriction is present, yellow if contamination could impact the excavation, and green if there are no restrictions or contamination in the vicinity of the excavation.
